FERDINAND A. & RUTH ANDERSON PETERSON SCHOLARSHIP honors the legacy of Ruth Anderson Peterson (1899–1996) and her husband, Ferdinand A. Peterson, whose lives reflected a strong commitment to education, community service, and the University of Utah.
Ruth Anderson Peterson was born in Ephraim, Utah, and pursued her academic interests with distinction, earning a degree in pharmacy from the University of Utah after beginning her studies at Snow College. She later continued graduate work in Logan, Utah. Throughout her life, she maintained a deep connection to the University and to student success, exemplified by her leadership roles in organizations such as the University of Utah Mothers Club and the Salt Lake Mothers Club.
Ruth and Ferdinand Peterson shared a lifelong dedication to family, faith, and community. Ruth was especially active in service through her church and local volunteer programs, reflecting values of mentorship and support that are central to the mission of higher education.
This scholarship commemorates their enduring belief in the power of education and supports students pursuing studies in chemistry at the University of Utah, helping to foster the next generation of scientists and scholars.
