The Office of Nationally Competitive Scholarships announced that 12 University of Utah students have been selected as semi-finalists for the prestigious Fulbright U.S. Student Program. Sponsored by the U.S. Department of State’s Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs, this nationally competitive program supports academic exchanges between the United States and over 140 countries around the world. Selected program participants will pursue graduate study, conduct research, or serve as English Teaching Assistants abroad.
For the 2024-2025 Fulbright application cycle, the University of Utah had 26 Fulbright applicants, which resulted in 12 semi-finalists. This is the largest number of Fulbright semi-finalists ever achieved by the University of Utah, with 46% of our applicants making it through to the semi-finalist stage of the competition.
The University of Utah’s semi-finalist cohort represents 8 schools and colleges. Making it to the semi-finalist round is a significant accomplishment for these students and means that their applications have been forwarded by the Fulbright National Screening Committee to the Fulbright Commission for final review. Awardees will be announced in the coming months, with the timing of notifications varying by country.
We are proud to share that among the 12 students selected from the University of Utah is Delaney Miller, graduating with an honors B.S. in Chemistry from the College of Science in Spring 2025. Delaney aims to use her expertise in chemistry, Spanish, as well as cross-cultural community engagement and her commitment to sustainability initiatives to teach English in Spain.
Delaney’s passion lies in sustainable materials research, specifically, biomaterials. She has experience working on electrosynthesis of monomers for plastics derived from biomass compounds and characterizing organic mixed ionic-electric conductors for energy storage applications, but her passion for science doesn’t stop in the lab. Miller is actively involved in organizations such as the Society of Women Engineers, Society for Advancement of Chicanos/Hispanics and Native Americans in Science, and the American Chemical Society. She has made outstanding efforts to promote diversity and community in STEM.
Congratulations Delaney!
