Program Overview

The University of Utah’s Chemistry Ph.D. program prepares students for careers in industry, academia, and government. Students develop advanced knowledge in chemistry, conduct independent and collaborative research, and gain skills in teaching, mentorship, proposal writing, and scientific communication.
This training is achieved through laboratory and computational research, teaching experience, proposal development, coursework, seminars, and the preparation of manuscripts and a dissertation. The program is designed to help students achieve the learning outcomes listed below.

- Graduation with a recognized four-year degree
- Minimum GPA of 3.0
- English proficiency scores (International students only)

Application & Acceptance Dates
- For priority consideration, completed applications should be received by December 1. Applications received after that date and until February 1 will be reviewed in an ongoing basis.
- By agreement with other U.S. universities, we ask that you make your decision to ACCEPT our chemistry graduate offer by April 15.
