The Department of Chemistry requires students to follow these guidelines regarding transfer courses from another institution.
Before submitting a manual transfer evaluation to the Department of Chemistry, please check the U of U’s transfer equivalency database. If your course appears in this database within the time-frame indicated, you do not need to submit a transfer evaluation to the chemistry department.
- Please submit one course per evaluation. For example, if you took Genchem I and II, this would be two separate submissions.
- Make sure your syllabi includes a list of lecture topics that were covered and also a list of labs if applicable.
- If you need to request a permission code, complete the Permission Code Request Form and make sure to include documentation of your approved transfer evaluation.
- Review your degree audit regularly to see if your transfer courses have appeared there.
- Once transfer classes show up on your degree audit, email your academic advisor stating that your courses are now on your degree audit and request that the appropriate degree audit exceptions be entered.
- Course syllabi in mathematics, biology, and/or physics should be sent to the respective departments to be reviewed.
- For general education requirements that aren’t showing up on your degree audit, please submit a petition. If you see transfer courses on your Degree Audit that you think should clear General Education requirements, but aren’t doing so, please submit the General Education Requirement petition form.
- Once you have received a response from that department, forward the email to your academic advisor and request that a degree audit exception be made.
Transferring to the University of Utah?
This guide is designed to preview how courses taken at other institutions may transfer to the University of Utah. New transfer equivalencies are regularly being reviewed. Courses not appearing in the guide have not yet been evaluated by the university. Academic departments make all determinations regarding University of Utah transfer equivalencies.
Non-remedial courses from regionally accredited institutions which are not equated to a UofU course should receive either department or general transfer elective credit. These electives are designated at the level taken from the originating institution (1XXX, 2XXX, 3XXX, etc.). All UofU equivalences are calculated using semester hours.
The transfer equivalencies listed below are intended to be used as an unofficial guide. Students should consult with their individual department’s advising team or the Academic Advising Center to best understand how their transfer coursework will apply to their desired major. Any additional questions regarding transfer equivalencies should be sent to articulation@utah.edu.
How to use the transfer credit equivalency guide:
- In the Institution Search box, type the name of the school where the credits will be transferred from or find the school using the alphabetical index.
- Select the school where you took the class.
- Locate the course or if needed, use the Search feature to type the course number (e.g., ENGL 101) in the course code box and click “Search".
- The original course will appear with the University of Utah equivalent if an equivalency has previously been determined. If the transfer course does not appear, the course will be evaluated only after official transcripts are received and reviewed.
- Repeat these steps for each transfer course.
Please note: As only 'active' equivalencies are shown, this is not an exhaustive list of courses accepted at the University of Utah. If a transfer course is not listed, it is possible it has not yet been evaluated by the university for acceptability and course equivalency.

- All responses will be sent to the requestor's UMail address.
- It may take up to ONE WEEK (5 business days) for your request to be processed.
- Please do not send multiple requests for the same course.
- Requests will be processed in the order that they were received.
