In this role, which complements the responsibilities of the existing team in the Graduate School, Dr. Buck will focus on coordinating communication with students, faculty, Directors of Graduate Studies and Graduate Advisor communities; building a portfolio of resources grounded in student success and engagement for our constituents and providing oversight for graduate records, including the new graduate tracking system.
Dr. Buck is an Associate Professor in the Department of Chemistry, Adjunct Associate Professor in the Department of Biochemistry, and Associate Member of the Huntsman Cancer Institute Cancer Center. From Feb. 2021 – Jun. 2025, Prof. Buck served as Director of the campus-wide Biological Chemistry PhD Program. Prof. Buck joined the University of Utah Department of Chemistry in 2011. The research in her independent laboratory is focused on utilizing parallel in vitro biophysical/biochemical/structural with cell-based phenotypic and genomics approaches to delineate the mechanisms by which the ZBTB family of methyl-CpG binding proteins (MBPs) recognize their cognate DNA and protein targets to regulate epigenetic-based transcriptional processes in normal and disease conditions. As evidence of the impact of this research, Prof. Buck was awarded a prestigious American Cancer Society Research Scholar Grant. In addition to her research, Prof. Buck has been recognized for her teaching and mentoring through student nomination and receipt of a Career Services Faculty Recognition Award and a Sigma Chi Fraternity Outstanding Faculty Award.
